My true love for baking cakes began at the tender age of 44. Seriously! Whoever said you were too old to chase your dreams? I had spent my entire career in the medical field until one day, a co worker asked if I had any interest in helping her decorate a cake. Then, I was officially bitten by the baking bug!
For several years after that first bake, I decided to begin baking and decorating cakes for family and friends at home in the moonlight hours, after a full days work in the medical field. Hence the name, Moonlight Cakes! So there I was, a full-time job, a full-time mom, and a part-time baker… my plate was full!
Word began to spread and before I knew it, Moonlight Cakes went from a fun creative hobby to a full time job. I was torn… my heart was in cakes but my comfort was in job security. I hung on to both careers as long as I could until 2015 when I finally made that “leap of faith” and cut ties with my former career. I was terrified but excited for the future of Moonlight Cakes. It’s not every day someone drastically changes career paths at my age, but I knew it was what I had to do.
With the help from my oldest daughter, Whitney, we officially opened our first store front shop! And in a blink of an eye, the years flew by, and now with a handful of awards under our belt, a TV spot on the Cooking Channel, we are now anchored in Bedford, Texas at a full brick and mortar shop. I am blessed with an incredible staff which includes my husband, Stephen, of 38 years and middle daughter, Holly. We truly are a family owned business!
Community is everything for us! Born and raised in Hurst, Texas myself, I couldn't be more thrilled and honored to have Moonlight Cakes in its sister city, Bedford! Our customers are what keep us afloat and bringing joy and business to our community is truly a dream come true.
Now here I am, a mother of 3 and a grandmother of 3, with a still growing business in my hometown. The only thing sweeter than that is a Moonlight Cake ;)
